Killian is the Sinn Féin Councillor for the Donaghmede Ward.

Topping the poll in the local elections in 2004, Killian amassed over 3,500 votes, recording the highest ever vote for a debut candidate in the 26 counties.

After a half decade stint as an aid worker in the Balkans, Killian returned to Dublin in 2001, enrolled in Trinity to do a Masters degree and joined Sinn Féin.

Since leaving college Killian has worked with Travellers and currently is the director of TravAct, an advocacy and training organisation, based in Coolock.

Killian is married to Teuta and they have one son.
