Traffic Laws need to be amended

Sinn Fein Councillor Larry O'Toole has called for the amendment of Traffic Laws in relation to the 3 tonne limits.

Speaking after a meeting between Dublin City Councillors and local Garda Superintendents Cllr. O'Toole said "We were surprised to learn that in recent court cases, the courts were not prosecuting if a Garda didn't actually see a vehicle entering and leaving a three tonne limit area. This makes a successful prosecution almost impossible."

Cllr O'Toole added, "This sends the wrong message to local communities who are plagued hourly by rat running of heavy vehicles throughout their estates. I am calling on the Minister for Justice to deal with this loophole in the law and amend it accordingly. I will be taking the matter up with the Minister."
