Dublin North East Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Harney invited to Dublin North East

Sinn Féin Councillor Larry O'Toole has had a motion passed at Dublin City Council Nth. Central Area Committee inviting
Minister for Health, Tánaiste Mary Harney to attend a meeting of the Committee.
Cllr. O'Toole said: "I believe Minister Harney owes it to our constituents to meet with the local Dublin City Councillors to outline whatever plans she has to deal with the ongoing crisis at Beaumont Hospital. We have had a series of cutbacks and diminishment of services at Beaumont, the most recent being the scandalous situation regarding the proposed placement of trolleys in all Wards, instead of badly needed beds.

As we saw recently in Monaghan, where a poor man died unnecessarily, we are dealing here with people's lives. Surely our elderly, the sick and the vulnerable deserve better treatment? At a time of unprecedented prosperity, it is an absolute disgrace that our once envied Health Service is now the 'sickman' of Europe. Other countries will be studying our Health Service as an example of how not to do things!

The Minister must come to meet with us in the very near future. If the present situation is allowed to continue, then the

Minister will be responsible for more tragic cases of people dying for the want of basic health provision."
