Plight of residents in Priory Hall must be addressed

Published: 18 February, 2010

Sinn Féin representative Mícheál Mac Donncha has described the situation in Priory Hall apartments on the Hole in the Wall Road as "another dangeorus legacy of irresponsibility on the part of developers and Government during the Celtic Tiger years".

Mr. Mac Donncha said he has been working with his colleague Cllr. Larry O'Toole to press for proper recompense for all residents of the apartments. "I have been contacted by residents and they are extremely worried and unsure of what the future holds. While Dublin City Council tenants have been moved out of the apartments the remaining residents have been left in doubt as to what, if any, recompense they will receive as a result of the neglect which led to this situation".

"I see this as another dangeorus legacy of irresponsibility on the part of developers and Government during the Celtic Tiger years. Disgraceful neglect has led to fire safety issues, dampness, unfinished work on landings, car park flooding and security concerns. This situation should never have been allowed to develop. And it is by no means unique to Priory Hall. Such problems can be found, to one degree or another, throughout Clongriffin."

Cllr. Larry O'Toole will continue to raise these issues at City Council level and Mr. Mac Donncha, who is Parliamentary Assistant to Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, said they would be raising them at Dáil level also.
